School lunch around the world: this is a throwback assignment first shared by Mr. Nims in 2016.
Please do the following things, using this numbered checklist to ensure you are focused and thorough:
Research two countries in the world other than the United States. Write to describe what they eat for lunch at school.
What are their customs and habits around lunch time? How long do they spend on lunch? Do they bring lunch from home? Cook and clean up together?
Get help from your family. Make a plan to bring healthy food for MTN School Summer lunches.
Example:
In Japan, even young students handle school lunch. They work together to grow a school garden. They bring cloth napkins and utensils from home. They convert their own classrooms to a lunch rooms, and when they are done, they work together to clean up. They have a long time for lunch and they do not even need cleaning staff at their schools.
Our plan at home is to make our own sandwiches every night. We plan to have fruit like oranges, and healthy snacks like nut bars. We will be sure to freeze one water bottle that will melt by late afternoon, and one leakproof bottle for the morning. We will practice packing our things and we will remind each other not to waste food. We will think about trash and microtrash when we clean up. We will remember to "windproof" our lunches and leave wild places better than we found them! We will find shady spots for lunch and sit for 30 minutes or more before we jump up to play. The end ;)
(Now this is longer than it needs to be, but I hope it helps you prepare. Please post your HW in the comments on this blog post or email to me with help from parents at bencanady7@gmail.com)
With excitement!
Mr. Ben
