Wrestling and Basketball camps- June 23-26

Excited to announce something new this year! In partnership with Glenwood Springs High School, and in hopes we can develop young athletes while funding High School Athletics, we will host a two-sport camp this Summer from Monday, June 23 through Thursday, June 26.

Ages: 8 and up

Please ensure your athlete is ready to shoot on a 10' rim and to engage in the rigors of Wrestling.

Please send athletes who are excited to play basketball and wrestle for most of these full days. In other words, we do not intend this experience as a childcare option, but rather as a sports camp for developing athletes.

Supporting these goals is the bigger mission: to keep kids active, athletic, engaged, on Teams, and OFF SCREENS. With a "Start 'em young" mentality we believe we can bring people together for good!

Camps will begin at 830AM on June 23, 24, 25 and 26. Pickup window is 4:30 to 5:15 PM at Glenwood Springs High School. Student-Athletes will have a chance to try both Wrestling and Basketball, along with a prescribed weightlifting routine. We will also take short trips out from the school to visit Red Mountain, outdoor basketball courts, and will set up mats outdoors weather-permitting.

No cost to Full-Time Summer 2025 MTN School Students. RSVP by emailing bencanady7@gmail.com to be added to the roster.

1/2 rate for Two-days per week Summer 2025 MTN School Students. RSVP by emailing bencanady7@gmail.com to be added to the roster.

$300 for all Student-Athletes who choose to participate in this one week camp as a stand alone activity.

MTN School will donate $50 per student on the roster to Glenwood Springs High School Athletics. Please consider a donation to sponsor another Student-Athlete or to support GSHS Athletics.

Please note: Use of the GSHS facilities are a privilege. Student-Athletes will be instructed clearly on appropriate use and access of the wrestling room, weight room and auxillary basketball gym, after which point they will be held accountable by Teacher/Coaches.

Lead Teacher/Coaches: Ben Canady, Adam Cartwright and Shane Heater with High School Athlete Counselors TBD

Basketball and Wrestling practices will consist of:

1) All camp warm ups and exercises

2) Coach Talks on values: What characteristics make a good Team player? What does it mean to be "Worthy of Winning?"

3) Skills practice-

Basketball: dribble, pivot, bounce pass, chest pass, defensive covering, layups, jump shots...

Wrestling: Neutral position shots at lower, middle, and high level, Ducks and Drags, Wizzer series, Standup/Switch, Top rides: Arm bar series, cradles, half nelson series...

4) Scrimmages and Games

Each Team will be broken into a set number of "Houses" to be named after an NBA Team or a College or International Wrestling Team depending on numbers.

Each Team will "cross-pollinate" by challenging each other at typical scrimmage-oriented events such as Knockout and Horse or "King of the Mat" and "Sharkbait."

"Teaching is Coaching and Coaching is Teaching, except that when you Coach you are working with kids who signed up. Everyone wants to be there. After that mutual commitment, Teach the good stuff! Teach Values!" -- Coach K

Please share and encourage others to participate!
